Ubisoft buys Tom Clancy name rights

via here

"The future of our industry lies in our capacity to create and develop brands that captivate consumers and that present a myriad of opportunities for the full spectrum of entertainment, be it video games, books, movies or other media," says Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot.

Naturally, it looks like a Tom Clancy MMO will pop upsometime in the future, with initial estimated production costs of between 40 and 50 million USD.  That or, as the more cynical minded commentators point out, Ubisoft will just use the name rights to churn out versions of the same game all over again, EA style. At any rate, this blogger heartily approves of more non 'sword and sorcery' MMOs. That is, you know, assuming they're any good.
