NBC-2.com On In-Game Ads

In a material titled "Video Game Ads Target Your Kids?", Paul LaGrone outlines an obstacle for advertisers plunging into this quickly-growing virtual market.

Parents are not upset about video game violence. Instead, many are upset with the ‘real time advertising’ for video games their kids are seeing.

Mark Wallace: NBC to Light Virtual Christmas Tree in SL

While I never figured why the Christmas Rush must always start in November, I can see how a virtual holiday would also need a virtual tree. I wonder if Greatfather Winter will also be there..

In The News: Measuring in-game ads efficiency

One of the articles that made headlines last week all over the profile websites was  In game ad testing, by Alison Walton. Walton is a consultant over at Bunnyfoot.

The premise: Bunnyfoot, an UK-based consultancy developed a hot measuring model for in-game advertising impact. Furthermore, this emotive engagement model, as they call  it, can also "quantify and predict consumer response to advertising in games".

SL: Socially Responsible Camping

I was preparing slides for the marketing 3 conference and hunting around Second Life's malls for a good illustration and by chance teleported to Caliente City Mall. Not only is it one of the more best retail environments in SL, its creators are also employing a new (to me anyway) -- and much cooler -- form of camping. Instead of sitting in front of the slots, people are actually sweeping floors, cleaning windows or playing guitars. The place looks alive, the traffic grows, and the realism is striking. Genious.

Speaking of the conference -- I'm traveling most of the week so not too many updates. I'll make up for it, though.

Can your Orc Hunter afford Pennsylvania Railroad?

Terra Nova makes a playful attempt at converting MMO currencies into Monopoly cash. Here’s how it’s done:

“[…]here is how I worked out the worth of Monopoly money. It’s very simple and yes it ignores the fact that since 1935 about 200 million sets have been sold, so there’s certainly a money supply out there. I simply went to the Hasbro web site and found that each set contains bills with a face value totalling $15,140, and that replacement money (which I take to be a full set) is $3.50. The rest of the figures I got from around the web.

Certainly not the most scientific approach but the article is quite interesting, albeit short, and the notion of using a board game’s currency as a measure unit for virtual currencies has an air of beautiful irony about it.
